Karen is highly respected around the world as a leader and innovator in the field of medical writing. These qualities and her mandate for ethical medical writing practices led to her appointment as a Director of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals and Chair of its first Asia-Pacific Advisory Committee. Karen has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and holds respectful relationships with some of the world’s leading medical journal editors and publishers. A popular and sought-after speaker, Karen’s international standing as a medical writer was acknowledged in 2009 when she was the first non-American keynote conference speaker in the 70-year history of the American Medical Writers Association. Karen has extensive experience writing a broad range of regulatory and educational documents and she is a Certified Medical Publication Professional^TM. She takes great satisfaction in putting ‘pen to paper’, and embodies and inspires ProScribe’s commitment to excellence in medical communication.

Karen has spent the last 25 years immersed in medical writing and clinical research within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. A Professor at the University of Queensland and at the University of the Sunshine Coast, she lectures in medical writing and drug development. Karen’s business ethics and acumen have been recognised by winning one of Australia’s most prestigious business awards (Telstra Business Women of the Year Award; Queensland, Business Owner). Karen is one of the few women in Australia to have served as a Director on the boards of multi-million dollar organisations in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors. Karen completed her BHMS (Ed) Hons at the University of Queensland in Australia and her PhD (Medical Science) at McMaster University in Canada. She is a Life Member of ARCS Australia, having served as President and Chair of the Board, and is also an Honorary Fellow of the American Medical Writers Association. Karen is also active within the Drug Information Association, serving on the on the Core Committee of the Medical Writing Special Interest Area Community and being the first person to lead medical writing workshops for the China affiliate of the Drug Information Association.

Away from her desk, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and as a former Australian surfboard riding champion, still delights in conquering the surf.

近年はビジネス経験を生かし、学会および出版社のコンテンツ提供や教育プログラム提携の交渉、契約締結から実行までの管理も行っている。特にピアレビュー論文出版を軸としたPublication Planningを得意とし、学会発表やプレスリリースなどをガイドラインに準拠した形で効果的に組み合わせる情報提供をアドバイスしている。投稿に伴うCOI監査やレビュー時の問題発生に対応することも多い。

日米のメディカルライター協会、米医師生涯教育協会にて、医学出版とコミュニケーション、医学教育について調査や発表を行っている。

Jason brings a unique blend of skills and experience as ProScribe’s Client Relations Manager for the Asia-Pacific region. His Chinese-Australian background, his extensive professional and educational experience in Japan, and his fluency in English, Japanese and Cantonese has equipped him with a global mindset focussed strongly on serving ProScribe’s clients in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jason has been a passionate advocate for improving medical communication skills in Asia. During his tenure at Nihon University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan, Jason forged strong links with many of the region’s top universities and pharmaceutical companies. For his pharmaceutical clients, Jason facilitated various educational initiatives, including joint presentations at conferences, seminars, and workshops. He was also instrumental in successfully implementing an innovative e-learning system that enhanced medical communication skills and elevated computer literacy levels.

Jason has also provided culturally sensitive translations of patient-reported outcomes for the MAPI Institute, a world-renowned translation and linguistic validation organisation, and has been active in the promotion of clinical work experience in Australia for medical students in Asia. Jason is also involved with the community aid group, Oxfam, which assists people in need throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Jason has a Master of International Relations and a Master of Translation and Interpreting (Japanese) from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Tsukuba in Japan.
